Whitney Mesa Recreation Area comprises over 30 acres of developed amenity sites spread over a more than 100 acre site. One of the project objectives was to preserve the beauty of the Whitney Mesa bluffs and canyons as well as the striking views and environmentally sensitive escarpment in the southeastern Las Vegas Valley. It includes the construction of over 2 miles of multi-use trails, accessible nature trails, and primitive trails into the more natural areas within the site. The trails connect the site’s amenities, the Whitney Mesa Nature Preserve, as well as nearby parks, schools and recreation centers as a part of the City of Henderson’s award winning trail system.

The project features a neighborhood park with a basketball court, bocce courts, open turf play area, picnic areas, restroom, custom tot-lot with western-themed town walls, Native American themed play amenities, storm water retention area with interpretive signage. Additional amenities and interpretive signage occurring throughout the overall site include the BMX terrain park with spectator seating; tennis complex with sunken tournament court; and Armijo’s Camp which is a group day-camp area with tent sites, custom natural stone amphitheater secluded within a mesa ravine; and an archery range.
