The first phase of the Mountain’s Edge Regional Park, located in southwest Las Vegas, and was completed as the first Design-Build delivery method project by Clark County, NV. with Pace Construction leading the project team. The focal point of this first phase is the custom designed “gateway” rings that incorporate a custom climbing structure in the entry plaza. The rings, reaching nearly 30’ in height are never without a full load of children.

This 16 acre phase incorporates a multi-sport wall with targets and goals for various sports, including soccer, lacrosse, baseball, handball and about a dozen more. In the core of the park there are 2 large custom picnic shelters capable of accommodating over 100 patrons. A state-of-the-art tot lot with interactive play equipment is adjacent to the shelters.

Just beyond is a fitness area where parents can work-out while their children play nearby. On the other side of the tot lot is a bike/trike town, complete with road markings, a solar-powered scaled traffic signal, and custom designed town walls, designed and painted by a local artist, depicting everything from a barber shop to a zoo, and even a BLM field office (an homage to the park’s funding source).

Utilizing the grade changes on the site, the open-play turf areas are sized to allow 2 full size soccer fields, complete with LED Sport field lighting. In the quieter edges of the park is a meditation garden and desert-adapted plant demonstration garden. Rounding out the improvements is a 1-1/2 mile trail that currently meanders through the adjacent open desert, which will eventually be future phases. There are rest stops along the path with solar powered lighting.

An innovation our team provided, the first of its kind in the State, is a mobile app dedicated to the park which allows users to identify activities in the park, track their fitness, utilize the BSA regulation orienteering course, identify information on the demonstration garden plantings, with the ability to be integrated into the County’s picnic area reservation system. The project had several challenges with utility company delays, and a Federal Government shut-down in the middle of construction, and despite these obstacles, the park has already been lauded by officials as “the best park they’ve ever seen”, expressing their excitement to “bring the grandkids”.
