The design of the Nevada Veterans’ Nursing Home concentrates on the creation of a comfortable environment with positive stimulus for the elderly. Comprehensive research in psychiatric and geriatric care led to the use of design strategies that combat problems faced in this type of environment. Therapeutic stimulation, both physical and sensual, and remembrance therapy has proven to be a positive influence on patient mood and ability to relax. The design approaches used to best serve this particular user group were the incorporation a return-path (figure-eight) system, ample shaded seating, non-poisonous and non-toxic plant material, and the avoidance of shadowy areas.

The landscape was designed to fit naturally within the mountain side on the outskirt of Boulder City. The design includes a rock water feature, which doubles as a water source for the native fauna. This unique project also included habitat for several native desert tortoise.
