Lone Mountain Equestrian Park – Grand Opening

,

Saturday April 16, 2016 Clark County Commissioners staff members, in collaboration with JW Zunino Landscape Architecture, GCW Engineering, TJK Consulting Engineers, local equestrian groups, members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s, the Lone Mountain Advisory Board, Centennial High School’s ROTC color guard gathered to celebrate the Grand Opening of the first covered equestrian facility within the County and the first equestrian facility within the northwest Las Vegas Valley.

The festivities included pony rides for the kids, free barbecue and bluegrass music from a local band. Residents and neighbors are invited to join in celebrating the arena opening as well as the new, 2.2-mile multi-use trail that encircles the base of Lone Mountain.

The 8.5 acre equestrian facility park site is located at 4425 N. Jensen Street at the foot of Lone Mountain. It includes a covered practice arena (136 feet by 220 feet), two round riding pens (40-feet wide and 60-feet wide), a covered picnic area (30 feet by 50 feet), and a covered tot-lot (75 foot diameter fabric shade) with custom equestrian themed play equipment. The park site also includes a 14-space equestrian parking area for horse trailers, and asphalt parking lot, decorative fencing, and LED lighting with motion sensors to allow for energy conservation.

This facility was intended to hold no formal events. The northwest part of Las Vegas is known for its rural character and those residents who own horses now have a place close to home where they can ride and exercise their horses.

This project also included a 10-foot wide compacted decomposed granite equestrian trail that can be used by horseback riders, walkers and joggers. No motorized vehicles, including ATVs and motorcycles, are permitted. A multi-use concrete trail heading to the north was also incorporated which provides users a direct connection to Lone Mountain Area II also designed by JW Zunino located adjacent Lone Mountain Road to the north expanding connectivity throughout the Lone Mountain Regional Park.
